imagesKPQYRZG7I love language! Words are like Lego building bricks to me. You can play with them and make numerous constructions. In my case I often build hilarious things, caused by my sense of humour.

Due to a project I’m working on I have entered the world of a strange language. It’s a language with no words. Not my cup of tea, but  I’ll admit, it’s interesting, once you figure out what is NOT being said….

It’s the non-verbal language. The language of the body. If you give a speech the audience will pay attention to 7% of your so carefully picked words. That means that 93% of the attention goes to something else… It’s what you don’t say, but show. The listener will pay 38% of the attention to your tone, pace of speech and 55% to your body language.

The direction in which the feet are pointing seems to determine where you focus is. If you are talking to someone you are interested in your dominant foot (the one you place first if when start walking) will be pointing at the person. If we find ourselves in a unpleasant situation, the foot will be pointing at the nearest exit.. Time to go!

Whether or not you legs are crossed or open while standing or sitting, it has a meaning. It’s obvious that crossed or closed legs are not a positive gesture in conversation.

The arms show more than we would like them to. It’s not considered charming to hold your hands in your pockets of put them on your hips. It shows dominance of defensiveness. Crossed arms, is a no no.. You wouldn’t like to appear aggressive?

Touching your face, rubbing your eyes, it’s a risk. Studies show that people who do so would lie…

With all this new knowledge about this language it will be funny to have a conversation. Although I  might be very distracted by paying attention to all these body signs. I think I will stick to using my ears and gut feeling. That has worked fine so  If someone doesn’t feel good, I will have to make sure my body isn’t talking to them… 🙂
