Along side the road there is a girl. She stopped at a little sign which indicated that a bus would stop there. She’s waiting patiently, in clear view, so the bus driver will notice her. She can see the bus coming down the road. As the bus moves closer she sees the sign “Home” as the destination of the bus. The girl wonders how it’s possible that the bus is going ‘home’. There are other people on it, and the surely don’t live at the same address, the girl thinks quickly. What is she going to do? Get in, knowing that this trip has a strange destination, or will she stay and wait for another bus?
She decides to get on the bus. For a moment she’s not sure if her ticket will be valid. As she passes the driver he smiles friendly. There are other people on the bus. One lady is staring, another lady smiles at the girl warmly as if to say ‘good choice’. The bus takes of and the girl is sitting by the window, looking out to see where the bus is taking her. Suddenly the bus stops and people get up moving towards the door. The girl decides to follow the people. She gets off and she looks around. She’s in a different time. In the window of a house she tries to see herself and she’s shocked. The reflection tells her that she’s a bit older.
Not knowing where to go, she starts walking down the street. Someone says “hello neighbour”. The girl thinks rapidly, if that’s my neighbour, I must live in this street, somewhere. It’s all very confusing. A door opens and a woman says “Where have you been?’ The girl is glad this happened, so she knows where home must be. Not to cause any trouble, the girl murmurs an excuse and enters the house. She looks around thinking… this is home? Is this how it feels? And another thing, how does home feel anyway? There’s not much time to think about it, because the mum starts a conversation with her. It’s solving a puzzle. Who is this woman and what’s this place called home?
Suddenly the girl says “I don’t know who I am and what I’m doing here”. The woman looks up and says smiling “Ah my child, don’t we all have that question sometimes? You want gravy on your veggies?”
Later on the girl lies in bed. Apparently hers. She looks around the room and wonders who picked the furniture and with what idea in their heads. It doesn’t feel comfortable. The next morning the girl leaves the house. The mum waves goodbye and wishes her a lovely day… at school? The girl walked down the street to the little sign where the bus will stop and waits. The bus with destination ”Home” comes again. The driver says hello and asks “Did you find it there?” The girl asks “What was I looking for”. The man says “Home”.
Home, it’s a feeling. But what kind of feeling? She thinks, warmth, safety, comfort, being you, knowing that you can always go there. Those are the ingredients of home. So.. home is me.
The girl sits next to the driver and shares her thoughts about home.
Well, he said, you figured that out quick. Most of the travellers keep getting on and of this bus and still don’t know. But now you know, what are you going to do with this knowledge? The girl isn’t quiet sure and asks if there is a bus trip for that question. The driver laughs and says”Home is where your heart is, so you can save yourself that drive”.
The girl starts to smile and says”This is the best day of my life, I know where home is” while she points at her heart.
